Sunday Stretch Out ~ “Thick As A Brick” ~ Jethro Tull

Music Composed & Lyrics Written by Ian Anderson
Released March 10, 1972

The very first concert I ever attended was the tour of this album.

Nov. 8, 1972 Cobo Arena – Detroit, Mi.

I loved Tull’s first 4 albums and this fifth, a one song concept album was absolutely epic. Live, he played this for 90+ minutes. Tull hit the stage at 9:00pm and played four straight hours of a pure musical bliss starting with “Thick As A Brick” then seemed to continue with almost every song from the first four. I still regard it as the best concert I ever went to.

Was high as a kite with my friends up in Tier C, the acoustics were fantastic. I’m sure the weed helped. LOL…… But to hear this again in its entirety brings it all back as if it was yesterday. They wanted a progressive piece of rock and Anderson gave them beyond genius. The composition was decades ahead of its time, it was musical madness at its finest.

Ian Anderson – lead vocals, acoustic guitar, flute, violin, trumpet, saxophone
Martin Barre – electric guitar, lute
John Evan – piano, organ, harpsichord
Jeffrey Hammond (as “Jeffrey Hammond-Hammond”): Bass guitar, Vocals
