This native-born Canadian spelled musical genius.

Jeff Healy knew two things throughout his entire lifetime. The first so unfair and unkind, cancer. At one year of age he lost his eyes to a very rare form of it. And at the end of a short 41 years here on earth it would take him from all of us. But in-between he would bring a magical mixture of blues, rock & jazz to entertain the masses. Playing guitar from the age of three in an unconventional way, on his lap. By 17 he started on his journey and never stopped. Forming the Jeff Healy Band they produced their first album in 1988 “See the Light” in which two hit singles “Angel Eyes” and “Hideaway” would gain them a Grammy nomination. Then the movie Road House in 1989 set Healy ablaze.

Continuing on with more albums and hits in 2000 he then produced a work of another passion of his, Jazz with the album “Get Me Some”. Now along with guitar he was playing trumpet during the live performances. Over the following years he toured with some of the most famous performers, but as far as I’m concerned they were the lucky ones for having him.

During the making all this music within 18 months Healy underwent surgeries for cancer in his legs then sadly from both of his lungs. Jeff lost his life to the disease on March 2, 2008 one month before the release of his last album “Mess of Blues”. In 2009 the album won Best Blues Album in The 8th Annual Independent Music Awards.

He might of left this world but he also left a part of himself for us to enjoy with a legacy of music so his spirit will always live on.

And live on it does.
