My Funny Valentine ~ Chet Baker

Chet’s signature song and nobody sang it as tenderly. His trumpet and his accompaniment on the song ain’t too bad either. Chet had a way making women fall in love with not only his muse but him and this performance shows the reason why. Just at the point where he goes into “With My Heart” he had me.

So Happy Valentine’s Day to all the lovers out there.

Written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in 1937.
A hit in 1952 for Baker with the Gerry Mulligan Quartet and released off Chet Baker’s 1956 album Chet Baker Sings.

Tokyo Live 1987
