When you hear Johnny Rivers as with any Burt Bacharach & Hal David song you hear the 1960s.
Johnny Rivers had a lot of hits in the sixties liked: “Memphis”, “Secret Agent Man”, “Mountain of Love” and all charted in the top 10. But it was “Poor Side Of Town” that was my favorite and must have been everyone else’s as well because it was the only song to top the chart in the number 1 position.
The song lyrics were written beautifully and the music equally matched.
All of us either one time or another have come from the poor side of town, sometimes the best memories in our lives came from that side.
