So Come Downtown And Enjoy It!
This 4 day Jazz Fest is the best on the planet. No the national media has never highlighted Detroit for this festival. The only thing they know is broadcasting the negative side of this city. Well they are wrong.
We all know it here and it’s about time the rest of the world knows it too.
Last year I was at this Grand Finale Jam Off.
Gerald Wilson, The Manhattan Transfer, Detroit City Jazz Festival Orchestra. And Others who played on other Stages that Sunday. Bobby Watson, Terell Standford, Victor Lewis, Terence Blanchard, Ernie Watts, Randy Brecker and more.
When they were done all one could say is DAMN!
Sax’s riffing off each other, Trumpets riffing off each other, it was like being back in time at the finest 1950s jazz clubs watching Dizzy and Bird.
The Manhattan Transfer said it best just looking at all who were on that stage with them.
” WE KNOW WE’VE BEEN AT JAZZ FESTIVAL “
They looked in awe themselves.
And all I can say is THAT WAS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!
We all celebrated Gerald Wilson’s 92nd Birthday that night ( Sept. 4th ) and They Tore That Place Up!
That’s the only thing that will be missing from this years line up. Gerald Wilson in I can’t remember how long. If there was only one song I could hear every year at this festival, I would always say it was worth the 4 days in all.
Gerald’s Viva Tirado. We will miss him this year.
But they’ll have a lot of Jazz going on at 5 stages at The 2011 Detroit Jazz Festival this year so don’t miss it!
And Support & Donate to keep it free.
And on Sept. 4th Happy 93rd Gerald!
