Pinnacle Race Course Finale.

Sunday is the last Live Racing Day for the 2010 season. A season filled with much anxiety, stress and uncertainty.

This 2010 season was funded totally by the Thoroughbred Horsemen/Women in every respect. The Michigan Gaming Control Board took control alright. They forced as much money as they could get out of the track. Basically the HBPA shelled out a million dollars. The MGCB came back a second time in Sept. and demanded even more money to continue the meet. They poured their work, sweat and will into the finishing of this meet while roadblocks were coming at them a 1,000 mph from every direction. It is that will I’m hoping Michigan’s next Governor will take a very hard look at and respect. I also hope they will be willing to look to other States that have helped Horse Racing to survive in those States. And to recognize how much more the Horse Tracks can offer and generate for the State of Michigan. For it is this Industry that has contributed to Michigan for more than 77 years. I’m hoping we have a 78th year.

Before the word Lottery and most certainly way before the word Casino was ever put into play here. It was Horse Racing that helped fund the State’s Revenue for more than three-quarters of a century. And at one time had over 42,000 jobs connected to this Industry. 7 day a week hard-working individuals that contribute to the State’s Economy and who are worthy of this State’s notice.

This year especially the Thoroughbred Industry seemed to be Michigan’s main target. Jerry Campbell took a risk at a time when the entire financial collapse was about to take place. Investors walked out on him yet got bailed out through Tarp Funds. Yet there was no such Bailout for him or Pinnacle Race Course. Only accusations and Investigations by on the way out the door Politicians. All I know is when one Investor walks out on you, you have to get another otherwise the project comes to a halt. And to those people who implied things that were lies when in fact the only option was to conduct any deals that you could do to keep yourself and an Industry alive, I say try working as hard as the Thoroughbred Horsemen and Woman of this State. It’s easy to write your criticisms at a keyboard than to show up and put in a full day at a Farm or a Track.

Agriculture certainly appreciates the honesty.

I guess it’s something you just have to be a part of. The work and the Horses get into your blood and that my friends is a damn good thing. Their drive and willingness to survive outweighs their critics that don’t do anything at all but to look for faults and things to kill them off. What a sad commentary for all the misconceptions that have been spewed and written about on this Race Track.

There are those who get Bailouts without questions, then there are those who try to survive without any but get Inquisitions. That’s just the way it is. In any event  Pinnacle’s Final Day of racing to me should be looked upon with success. The success of the group that gave it their all, The Michigan Thoroughbred Horsemen/Women.

This State did all it could to try to stop them and say they couldn’t. And they showed you with every ounce of their might that they in fact could, would and did. For that Pinnacle Race Course and the Michigan Benevolent Horsemen’s Protection Association are the Victors. So we celebrate this Victory today and will look forward to the Meet of 2011.

And hopefully this next Governor will place Horse Racing back where it belongs under Agriculture, and Re-Instate The Office of Racing Commissioner.

“Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival.”

Enjoy the Day, For there will be a tomorrow.
