How befitting the Grand Finale of the Jazz Fest in Downtown Detroit would be a JAM SESSION Blow Out, with Gerald Wilson, The Manhattan Transfer, Detroit City Jazz Festival Orchestra. And Others who played on other Stages Sunday. Bobby Watson, Terell Standford, Victor Lewis, Terence Blanchard, Ernie Watts, Randy Brecker. I can’t count all the names and players. It reminded everyone there in Hart Plaza of a 1950s Ballroom and Jazz joint old fashioned jam out. Reminded me of the movie of Charlie ( Bird ) Parker’s life. When Bird and Dizzy Gillespie just Jammed.
So to Manhattan Transfer’s last number of a Scatting,
Trumpet Duets Jam Offs, Sax Duets Jam Offs. Just plain Joint Jumping JAZZ at it’s Finest.
To the City of Detroit, no one can touch us here. Manhattan Transfer even Remarked, THIS IS A JAZZ FESTIVAL HERE! And they were awesome. Birdland set the place ablaze. And proceeding them, Gerald Wilson’s Compositions. Gerald Wilson ‘Blues for Yenya’ written for his daughters CAT. 5 other songs ending of course with his Best. The one I go down there for that’s worth all 4 days of this Event.
And Detroit City Jazz Festival Orchestra were OUTSTANDING.
No you won’t hear any of this on the National News. They only report the negatives of Detroit. Well I got news for all. Detroit Was on FIRE MONDAY. For all the right reasons.
Hot Smokin’ Jazz and nobody does it better than Detroit BABY!
To all the Artist, Bands, Orchestra’s and Players. WE THANK YOU!
And that last number brought the house down. Only last thing I can say. FABULOUS!!!
2010 Detroit Jazz Festival Finale JAM OFF!
