Man does it get any CLASSIER than this! This was at the 2007 Jazz Fest. Both were AWESOME.
Dave Brubeck and Gerald Wilson
Detroit gets a lot of negative press nationwide all the time. I wonder if this Jazz Fest will get a Mention?
This 4 day event has been going on now for 31 years. And has featured every well known Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Artist’s. I have been fortunate to have gone to most of them.
And it is FREE. That doesn’t mean there isn’t any cost to put this 4 day event on. It just means the funding comes from people like you who donate to this Fabulous Jazz Festival, so the Music and The Artists can be put on stage for free to the public. The Detroit Jazz Fest and all of the Muse and Stages, you don’t get charged a dime to see anyone. And I don’t know of many Venues of this Magnitude that can say that.
It’s your time to shine Detroit. And whether the Nation and It’s Media will give us a mention. WHO CARES! We will have a mighty time as we always have.
It’s just too bad the Arts, Beats and Eats Festival ( Admission $3.00 ) has to be going on at the same time. Closer this year in Royal Oak for the first time. Woodward is going to be one busy road way this weekend. It’s hard to be at both at the same time. The Thunderbirds take the stage Saturday @ 8:30pm on the Chase Stage at the Jazz Fest.
Kenny Wayne Sheppard takes the Main stage Saturday @10:00pm in Royal Oak. I will be in BLUES HEAVEN. Then WAR takes the Main Stage Sunday @8:30 pm in Royal Oak as well. So I’ll be a little at both.
But Monday @ 7:30pm I will not miss Gerald Wilson @Jazz Fest.
Sorry to see Labor Day already, but in Detroit Summer goes out with a BAND! Many in Fact.
So if you enjoy, Food, Music, Dance, Good People and Fun. Head to DETROIT THIS WEEKEND. We won’t let you down
WELL THANK YOU, TIME MAGAZINE.
Went down to see The Kenny Wayne Sheppard Band Saturday Night. And they didn’t disappoint.
But Royal Oak, you were clueless. So many empty parking spaces taking away as in Meters. It wasn’t about Traffic concerns, you had them anyway. It was about charging phenomenal fees to park. $10 and $15. Ridiculous. I paid nothing. I parked off the street into a two space spot, where there was no sign saying no parking. So I got lucky. I realize it was Royal Oak’s first Art, Beats and Eats Venue.
But the Porta Johns were not even maintained and the place was a Madhouse. Hopefully next year will be better organized. So I’m going to Pass on the band ” WAR ” Sunday night which is unfortunate. But no way I’m going back to Royal Oak.
Kenny Wayne Sheppard was great and glad I went down to see him. But Sunday & Monday it will be the Jazz Fest in Detroit. Where I’m always comfortable.
