I LOVE HOCKEY!
It is my favorite sport and being a Detroiter I couldn’t be happier for our neighbors across the river. I’ve been watching hockey as far back as I can remember. And that’s about 3 or 4. I think I knew the Canadian National anthem before I even knew my own. In 1961 Hockey night in Canada every Saturday night taught it to me.
I for some reason always remember the name of Davie Keon. After all The Original 6 teams were playing. So it was either Toronto or Montreal on our Detroit CBC Channel 9 Saturday Nights. Let’s face it at one time 99.9% if not 100% of all the players for any NHL team were Canadians, Our Detroit Stars Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay, Frank Mahovlich, Alex Delvecchio and all the rest were bred, Born & Raised in Canada.
They invented the sport. And in my opinion with the winter Olympics this year being in Canada it was only befitting that the Country who inventing the game WON THE GOLD there!
To me it was like us winning it anyway, with our Red Wing Coach Mike Babcock behind the bench and our Hero of Hockey of the second Detroit generation who brought home 3 of the last four Stanly Cups to Detroit, Steve Yzerman heading the whole Canadian Team. Hell how could we consider it a loss.
I rooted for Canada, I wanted them to win it on their Home Turf. They did and I couldn’t be happier for all of them. And come on is there really that much shame in SILVER?
I rather think not. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE COUNTRY WHO INVENTED THE GAME! OH CANADA!
